Today I stumbled upon a press release from 2005, (yes 18 years ago) when we were the proud owners of Comacc Payroll (now MYOB Exo).

The press release highlighted the key frustrations of 700 Payroll Administrators who participated in our survey.

"Payroll Officer - an under-appreciated job",

and as I reread the piece, it dawned on me that sadly not much has changed in 18 years. The same frustrations still exist today!

While there were several areas identified in the survey, the top three were:

1. The Holidays Act (It is still a nightmare)
2. Payroll Managers generally didn't feel they received the support and recognition they deserve. (In many cases this is still how it is)
3. Paper Timesheets - Dealing with lost, late, illegible and inaccurate timesheets (They are still a nightmare, but we have a solution for that🙂)

Yes payroll technology has improved since 2005, but despite the talkfest that takes place in Wellington every year, the Holidays Act has not been touched (and we can't see it happening any time soon)

While, unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about #1, you can definitely fix #2 and #3.

Step 1: Go and thank your payroll manager now for the fantastic job they do to ensure your team is paid accurately and on time each week. We have even included a template (cut and paste it below) for an email you can use to send a thank you note to your payroll administrator. Or go all out and send it on a Thank You card with a box of chocolates.

Step 2: Make their life easier by talking to us about getting rid of paper timesheets  (talk to Steve)
